Room 227 | Sunday Morning

Sam hadn't slept last night. Usually, that wasn't a huge deal since he tended to sleep alone but now that he was living with his girlfriend, it was kind of hard to hide that from her at the very least. He'd laid there for awhile and then he'd gotten up and puttered around the room and eventually went for a walk.

Look, he'd been trying hard to make sure those ghosts didn't appear at night, okay? It was either not sleeping or wearing the pouch and he chose...not sleeping. Because he was an idiot.

But, he was awake now. He had a bowl of cereal in front of him, his skateboard laying wheels up next to his hip and his back against the foot of the bed. A few records were near his feet and one of them was on the record player, filling the room with quiet music.

But hey, he hadn't been entirely unproductive this past weekend. He'd gone into town, gotten himself a job, and now he was eating cereal and was about to fix up his skateboard.

So, things...could be worse.

He wasn't sure what to really say either. It was kind of hard to segue from that into something lighter. He was actually trying to think of something, anything, to get his mind off the whole 'ending' thing but he was failing.

He idly picked up a ragged blue t-shirt out of his drawer and held it between his hands.

"Do you want to get dressed?"

Well, she found some words. Since she'd probably have to let go of him if that was the case.

"I'm not in a rush or anything," Sam said, shrugging a shoulder. "Just looking for something that I might wanna put on a little later."

"Okay."

And there came the silence again. She nuzzled his shoulder but it was a little absent.

And Sam could feel that whole absent thing there, yeah. It made his shoulders sag the tiniest bit before he pushed it away and straightened them again.

He wanted to say something else but seriously, he was just blanking on everything right now. What a loser.

And this had been such a nice morning until now, too. But you know, all things came to an end, and that extended to nice mornings as well.

Natalie felt his shoulders sag (though she felt him straighten them again, too) and wondered if she should let go. She didn't, not yet anyway, for fear that he'd take it the wrong way or something.

Plus she wasn't sure what the right way even was.

"You think we have an expiration date, huh?"

It was all Sam could think of to say since it was just running through his head now.

[whenshewasnice]

"That's not what I said." Her hold on him was already starting to loosen, and she regretted ever bringing this up. "But I'm just being a realist."

[necroslacker]

"Right, I know, realism," Sam sighed, eyes slipping closed. "I'm not a realist. Sorry. I don't think about things like that so it kinda hits when I realize I should."

Even if he didn't want to. And still wouldn't.

Natalie let her arms slip from around him and stepped back, tugging on the belt on her robe when it felt too loose.

Or just to do something.

"It's not like I sit around thinking about it either," she said, mildly. "I try my best not to."

"I wasn't accusing you of anything like that," Sam said, taking the t-shirt he'd picked up earlier and sliding it over his head. It was faded and well worn and comfortable. He brushed his fingers through his hair and turned around to face her.

"Endings are just something I...don't want," Sam said, shrugging his shoulders. "Realism or not, I don't want them."

Natalie gave that a little shrug back. "They're a part of life."

Which was lame, but also true.

"I don't want to be an ending to you."

That didn't mean he had illusions about being together forever or anything like that but he knew things didn't have to end. They could change and still continue.

"Then what do you want to be, Samhain?"

Honest question that didn't mean she was thinking like that.

[necroslacker]

"Ongoing."

That was his honest answer.

"Things can change. Doesn't mean an ending is necessary."

[whenshewasnice]

Natalie shrugged a shoulder. "I never said I had a specific ending point in mind."

Okay, that was... about half a lie, really.

"You don't?"

He found that hard to believe if she'd been thinking about endings and tears and everything.

Hey, at least those could largely be blamed on Jace. If it had been just her, she would've preferred to just repress those thoughts.

"I've consciously not been thinking about what happens once the summer is over," she admitted, "but no."

[necroslacker]

"My comment still stands," Sam said, shrugging. "I still don't wanna be an ending even if you don't have a specific end date in sight. You asked what I wanted to be. I told you."

[whenshewasnice]

"You're not an ending, Sam," Natalie replied, a little more softly than before. "But even you don't think this is forever."

[necroslacker]

"Nothing is forever," Sam pointed out, shaking his head. "You should know that too."

[whenshewasnice]

"I do." Hence the earlier statement 'everything ends'. She was fairly secure in her knowledge of that, yes. "So what is your point with that?"

[necroslacker]

"Never mind," Sam said quietly, shaking his head. "I just see things in a weird way, I guess. Not important, though. It's cool. We're cool."

[whenshewasnice]

"Are we?"

Well, she hoped they were. She just wasn't so sure.

[necroslacker]

"Why wouldn't we be?" Sam asked, shrugging his shoulders again. "I'm fine."

If a little sad but he was bottling that up.
