So, it was Natalie's first birthday with Sam as her boyfriend and Sam kind of wanted to make that a memorable experience for her. Of course, that had been before this week had come along, leaving everyone wanting to jump everyone else at a moment's notice. Sam went ahead with his plans though. He found his way down to the cabins, picked one and actually started filling it with books, trying to make it resemble a library of some sort. Then, he set up a small table and two chairs, complete with candle in the center.

The food, it was takeout, but it was still hot and Sam was in a suit (different from the one at the dance) that included a vest and that was rocking pinstripes. He'd been going for dinner in a library setting since he knew how much she loved books and while having dinner in an actual library wasn't happening, he had money, he could buy books and then give them all to her if she hadn't read them before. He'd lugged his record player down as well, giving them some softer music playing to add background noise.

Now, it would be a struggle to see if they could get through dinner but Sam would try. And he was currently waiting outside the cabin for Natalie since he'd had her meet him there so he could set up and surprise her.

"You're welcome." Sam shrugged lightly and tucked his hands into the pockets of his pants. "And that's.."

He sighed and looked around. "...it. I wish I'd planned more. Sorry about that. Not great at this."

Natalie put the gifts next to her on the table and beckoned him closer.

Not that he was far way to begin with.

"Come here."

Sam could do that. He stepped closer to her, still looking sheepish about running out of things for her birthday so soon.

"Yeah?" Sam asked, glancing at her quietly.

Natalie reached for his hands to twine her fingers with his, and looked straight at him.

Her voice was soft and quiet. "Thank you for this."

Sam gave her hands a squeeze and smiled. "You're welcome. You deserved it, you know. I wanted to do something for you. Everyone deserves a good birthday. And I really do like you."

"I didn't doubt that." She was still perched on the edge of the table, so she tugged him closer, and went to try and wrap her legs around his waist. It was less sexual this time, though.

It was more like a rare flicker of wanting to be closer. Emotional intimacy. "I really like you too."

Sam went closer willingly, smiling when he felt her legs go around his waist. He let go of one of her hands so he rest his fingers on her leg.

"You've got great legs." It just had to be said. "You've got a great everything. Think we should stay here for awhile?"

Natalie's free hand snuck up his arm, up to his shoulder, and she nodded, slowly.

"We should stay a while," she said. "Yes."

"Okay."

Yeah, they should stay awhile. So, when he leaned forward to kiss her again, it wasn't with the intention of just having sex. It was to be close to her and be affectionate.

Being with her right now was all he wanted to do. He smiled into that kiss and let the world fall away around them.

It felt pretty damn good to do that. Pretty damn good.
