So, it was date night. And since it was Sam's idea, he'd picked the spot after getting some help with the language and the things offered from the hotel staff. And after some discussion, Sam had picked a small place that was both a place to eat, a place to look at art and a place to buy music. He thought it'd be Natalie's heaven and he figured he could enjoy it as well through her eyes.

He'd gotten himself dressed, told her minimal details about the place and was now standing outside the building with her hand in his hand. He still couldn't read the language so he glanced at her said, "You know enough to read any of this yet?"

Hopefully that meant she'd help him not order something with meat in it. Or something else just as gross.

She raised an eyebrow. "You have that planned." Snort. "Dork." But she meant it in a good way. "A minty ice cream dessert should do the trick."

"Of course I have that planned," Sam replied, shrugging. "Our dates do tend to go that way and it is fun when we do it. Maybe'll it'll turn into even more than that. That okay with you?"

"Well, we won't even have to exile anyone." Wasn't that really convenient? "I'm okay with that."

Probably more than okay.

Sam chuckled and even gave her a very lame eyebrow waggle. "See, invasions of personal space can be fun. Plus, I know I keep you warm at night and provide more pillows so you should admit that you like sleeping with me."

[whenshewasnice]

"You don't think I'd freely admit that?"

Well, she might not.

[necroslacker]

"I think that you'd keep it to yourself if you wanted to tease me," Sam said, smirking. "I know how you are. You keep things to yourself all the time."

Well, he really wasn't wrong there, she wasn't going to try and dispute it, either. Some things were hers alone.

"But I might not want to tease you today," she remarked lightly. "I like sleeping with you."

Sam laughed and tried to motion the waiter over to them. "I like sleeping with you too. You're very bossy in your sleep, you know. Very particular about how you and I sleep."

[whenshewasnice]

"It's a comfort thing," Natalie replied. "And I'm not bossy."

Well, maybe a bit.

"Garçon," she called out to the waiter, since she knew how. Since it was a French loanword and all.

"You're bossy," Sam teased, trying not to laugh when the waiter finally did show up at Natalie's call. Sam was just gonna...he was gonna let Natalie order first, yeah.

Which Natalie did, in a mix of polite Portuguese phrases and some French to help things along. It seemed to help, anyway. French was closer to Portuguese than English was.

And as promised, once done, she gestured at Sam and told the waiter he was a vegetarian.

And after she'd said that, he tried to point at something that looked like a pasta dish with bread or something and nodded at the waiter. He jotted it down and nodded back before disappearing to put their orders in.

"Thanks for the help," Sam said, giving her a brief smile. "Still don't know what I ordered but maybe I got something halfway decent."

"Hopefully," Natalie agreed with a faint smile, leaning her elbow against the table. "And to add to something from earlier, I'm not a bossy sleeper."

"You're totally bossy," Sam laughed, shaking his head. "If I said I wasn't gonna sleep behind you with an arm around you tonight, what would you say?"

[whenshewasnice]

"I wouldn't say anything." That much was probably true, since she kept so much to herself, especially things that were uncomfortable on an emotional level. "I'd be fine."

Well, mostly.

[necroslacker]

"You'd be fine?"

Sam was pretty sure she wasn't teelling him everything there was to know.

"So, you wanna just do that tonight?"

[whenshewasnice]

"No." She wasn't that stupid about playing things close to the vest, thank you. "Not particularly."

Not at all.

[necroslacker]

"So, just tell me you wanna sleep like that," Sam said quietly. "Come on, I don't mind the bossiness. I like it. I'm teasing you."

[whenshewasnice]

"I like sleeping like that," Natalie replied, with an eyeroll which thankfully came with a lopsided ghost of a smile that indicated she wasn't getting pissy. "You know that."

"I know you do," Sam said, giving her a little smile. "Why? And that's not questioning you. That's just me being curious."

[whenshewasnice]

Natalie shrugged. "Don't know." Liar. "Guess it's a comfort thing. I'm just... comfortable like that."

"I bet you do know and you just don't wanna share," Sam said, giving her a little smile. "But you can keep your secrets if you'd like. I don't mind."

Natalie rolled her eyes again. "No big secrets there. It's just how I like it."

She just felt safe like that. And free to move even while staying close. But both felt weird to say.

"You're just lucky that I don't mind sleeping like that," Sam said, leaning forward and giving her a small, private smile. "I could be worried about taking an elbow to my face. You do have sharp elbows even if you're soft."

[whenshewasnice]

She snorted. "I have sharp elbows ––" There was no point in trying to deny that. "–– but I sleep way too peacefully for even a theoretical worry like that."
