Al-Farabi ; Wednesday Evening
So, it was date night. And since it was Sam's idea, he'd picked the spot after getting some help with the language and the things offered from the hotel staff. And after some discussion, Sam had picked a small place that was both a place to eat, a place to look at art and a place to buy music. He thought it'd be Natalie's heaven and he figured he could enjoy it as well through her eyes.
He'd gotten himself dressed, told her minimal details about the place and was now standing outside the building with her hand in his hand. He still couldn't read the language so he glanced at her said, "You know enough to read any of this yet?"
Hopefully that meant she'd help him not order something with meat in it. Or something else just as gross.

She shifted her leg a bit, though not out of his reach. The opposite, actually.

"I don't know what that means."
Since she was an oblivious Canadian.

Well, anti-US. For taking away her best friend.
"Something to do with the constitution, right?"

She hadn't given a rat's ass about the population, to be honest. Not past the Ingrams.

She knew it was risky to bring that up, but at least he couldn't accuse her of shutting down on him, this time.

"So." He took a sip of his drink. "What changed your mind?"
no subject
To a certain extent, anyway.

He tried not to sound skeptical when he said, "Glad that wound healed. It'd be kind of weird if it hadn't."

Her voice had a measured idle quality to it as she asked, "How's the food? No meat?"
no subject
He took a few bites of his food and fell silent, trying to figure out if he liked the dinner in front of him or not.

Still. She knew things had tilted wrong, just now.
"Food's good," she offered after a while.
no subject
It wasn't bad. He'd decided that after a few bites.

"Date took a turn for the not great, eh?"

They'd been on a surprisingly good streak with their dates.

Well, he kind of was. He hated to admit that but he wasn't sure how she really felt about him besides the whole 'liking' thing.

Natalie moved some of her food around on her plate, appetite waning somewhat. "God bless sarcasm."

He'd been almost sure that things were going well with them, that she actually cared for him on a level deeper than expected but he was back to being unsure again.
That sucked.
