A weekend spent in here and now was a good weekend as far as Sam was concerned. He hadn't even existed last weekend so, slow or not, this weekend was gonna be a good one. He'd spent the morning talking to people in Seattle and he'd even gotten a visit from Ashley. She'd been pretty scarce lately and when Sam had asked about it, she'd just given her head a shake and kept typing on her Blackberry.

Sam took that as meaning she'd just been busy and he needed to not worry. Or something. So, that's what he was doing right now. He was not worrying about anything. He'd gotten mail from his mom and Haley that morning (a care package containing cookies) and he was nibbling on those every so often while exchanging text messages with Ramon.

Poor Ramon was still adjusting to the whole were-bear thing and was bitching about Frank nearly peeing himself when he'd run into a transformed Ramon in the hall and hadn't expected it. Sam was just lucky that Brannoc and his family were around and were helping Ramon through since he wasn't really there right now.

Ramon forgave him and even started sending him stupid, joking text messages about them getting married and running away and living as husband and husband. It was just good to joke with his friend and, for a split second, the part of Sam that was constantly reminding him that he'd go evil one day disappeared.

It was just a second but still, it'd been nice.

Oh, it felt like so long since Kate had taken out her boredom on her favorite so-say impossible to irritate neighbor. Far too long. At least he wasn't asleep this time.

"You didn't find those behind a door the other day, did you?" she wondered from the doorway. It was worth checking when it came to cookies around here.

"You think I'd be that desperate for food that I'd eat cookies I found behind a door?" Sam wondered, raising an eyebrow. "And no, I didn't find them behind a door but that's beside the point."

"I don't know, I've heard people around here say they ate something that rained from the sky." Kate shrugged. "Maybe you're one of those."

"There was a plate or two dropped around the other day."

"They're from home," Sam shared, rolling his eyes. "I'll leave the eating of snow and all other things that fall from the sky to you. Just avoid the snow when it's yellow. That doesn't mean it's flavored with lemons."

"Oh, right, that's banana". She didn't eat snow at all as a general rule, and rolled her eyes.

"I've learned what and what not to eat by now. Live near the Grease Trap and it teaches you what to avoid." It had the name for a reason.

"Grease Trap?" Sam questioned, raising an eyebrow. "Sounds familiar except the name of the place I lived near was Plumpy's and, oh yeah, I worked there too."

"Grey rubbery omlettes? Rat on the menu?" she checked. "If so, remind me never to eat your cooking."

"At Plumpy's, they were called hamburgers and chicken patties but yeah, I think they were on the menu," Sam quipped, shrugging. "And I never cooked. They didn't let me near the deep fryer. That was Ramon's thing."

Kate smirked. "What made him the chosen one?"

Though Natalie had dumped her jacket and bag in her room after walking back from the Perk, she still had a takeaway cup from the coffee place in her hand as she rapped her knuckles against Sam's door, then nudged it open.

"Hey."

"Afternoon," Sam said, waving both a cookie holding hand at her. He'd been pacing for a little while but had finally taken a seat on the edge of his bed. "Getting buzzed?"

The coffee was the indicator there. "Coffee is a total gateway drug to things that are even worse like...iced coffee."

Ew.

Natalie rolled her eyes, stepping into the room. "It's hot chocolate," she corrected him. "Already had the coffee at the Perk."

"My mistake," Sam said though he didn't apologize. Instead, he took another bite of his cookie and let that cover up a smile that wanted to come out. "You cold or something? Hot chocolate and coffee?"

"No. I'm from Montreal, we don't consider this weather cold." She took a sip. "Can't I just like warm beverages?"

"You can do whatever you'd like," Sam replied, raising an eyebrow. "Getting a little defensive over your warm beverages, aren't you? Still not sleeping or something?"

"I'm sleeping fine." For the most part, anyway; the hot beverages were just an unrelated whim. She wandered her way over to the bed and took a seat next to him, moving in that sort of understated way of hers. "Been a while since you've last accused me of being defensive."

"Been awhile since you seemed to get defensive at me," Sam retorted, reaching over to the opened box behind them and offering her a cookie. "I didn't cook them. They're from my mom. I'm getting spoiled from a thousand miles away."

Toby was bored, and not totally giving in to that nagging desire to really just see for himself that Sam was fine after all that disappearing-reappearing nonsese of last week. Really.

"Hey, man," he greeted. "Up to no good?"

"Depends," Sam answered, glancing up at Toby and half smiling. "Does eating cookies from my mom make me a bad to the bone rebel without a cause?"

It was good to see Toby too.

"Yep," Toby deadpanned. "No one's got a chance of stopping your reign of mayhem here on Fandom island."

"I feel like I should go out and buy a whole bunch of leather to complete the transformation," Sam said, offering Toby a cookie from this brightly colored box (his mom loved him, yes). "Want one so you can be part of my gang?"

"I'd never say no to a cookie. Especially if it means getting to join a bad-ass gang," Toby smirked, accepting said cookie.

"Sweet!" Sam said, trying to grin deviously. It probably didn't look very good on his face. "We'll just have to stalk around looking scary and do...whatever it is that gangs do."

Yeah, he had no idea what badass gangs did.

"Burn stuff down and tag things, mostly," Toby explained.

...he'd been going through a phase. Shut up.

Sam raised an eyebrow and sounded amused when he said, "Does someone have some personal experience?"
