necroslacker: (in the midnight hour)
When Sam blinked back into existence, his phone was still at his feet and he was right where he'd been when he'd disappeared. The...time of day seemed different but it was like he'd just stopped where he was.

"Holy -- " His words died and he picked his phone up. The battery was still half full (just like it had been when he'd left) and the last number dialed still showed up at Natalie's. Oh man, he'd left her a voicemail right as he'd been -- taken.

That...yeah. That wasn't even going to be something he thought about because he was going to (hopefully) have to deal with a lecture. He'd listen to the lecture as long as people were still there.

Sam started making his way back towards the dorms, hoping the dorms were still there and that she was still there. He didn't feel any worse for wear which, he suspected, was a good thing.

Still. He needed to get back to the dorms and he needed to make sure the world hadn't ended and he was now about to start living like those people from that one show where there zombies and everyone was sweating.

He couldn't do that even if he got a cool hat. Not a chance.

[For that one girl and set right around this post, of course]

Trying to get his ass back home as quickly as he could wasn't doing something stupid as far as Sam was concerned. He'd slipped into the meeting briefly and then slipped out to try and get back home. He wasn't looking for anything, wasn't seeking out a fight so he wasn't being stupid.

In fact, he actually picked up his phone and dialed Natalie's voicemail just to tell her so. "I'm heading back to the dorms now. I was in town, just at that meeting and not seeking whatever this is out."

He was so preoccupied with the phone call and getting back to the dorms, he didn't notice shrubs and benches start to twist and distort horribly. He'd kick himself for that later.

"Just wanted to let you know you don't -- " Worry was about to come out but he knew how she'd feel about that word. " -- wonder."

He turned to look over his shoulder and saw someone behind him that he didn't recognize. The colors in his mind were just...blank. No nothing there to tell him anything and he suddenly got a chill.

"Uh." The phone was still near his ear. "I'm so -- "

The rest of the words were swallowed up into nothingness when the Auditor touched his shoulder.

Oops.
