There hadn't been a lot of sleeping last night. Sure, he'd tried but he'd had a stupid nightmare that had left him breathing hard and sweating. He hadn't wanted to wake up Natalie so he'd grabbed his board and headed out to do...something. He just wanted to shake the nightmare off.

The hours had passed slowly but he'd stayed out the entire night, alternating between skateboarding and walking and sitting on benches both around the island and the mainland. Eventually, the sun started coming up and Sam started making his way back to the room. He stopped to pick up some breakfast on the way and was now slipping back inside the room quietly since it was still early.

He wasn't going to be going back to sleep but that didn't mean he had to wake anyone else up.

Well, you couldn't exactly wake up someone who was already awake. Even if Natalie was still rubbing sleep out of her eyes.

"Another night of no roomie but as much space on the bed as anyone could wish for," she noted, yawning. "Rough night?"

"Guess so," Sam said, dropping the breakfast down on his desk and glancing over at her. "Didn't mean to wake you up. You can go back to sleep, if you want."

"You didn't wake me up, I was already awake," Natalie replied. And look at how nice she was, refraining from pointing out she didn't need his permission to sleep again when she knew he didn't mean it like that and was just being polite.

Occasionally, she could learn from things. "I'm fine."

"Okay," he said, nodding. "I brought some breakfast if you're hungry. Nothing special, just some donuts and bagels. Help yourself."

He dropped his board down near his desk and ran his fingers through his slightly sweat soaked hair. It was warm out even this early.

"Thanks."

Natalie pushed herself up to a more of a sitting position, and stretched a bit before actually getting up, in her tank top and baggy shorts.

Nodding, Sam meandered over to his dresser to pull out some clean clothes since the ones he was wearing were a little sweat soaked also. Mostly, he kind of wanted to get out of them and get into something new to start the day fresh and try and banish the nightmare away.

Natalie went over to his desk to pick up a donut, then munched on it absently.

"You look sweaty."

Astute observation to start the day.

"Thanks," Sam said, giving a little laugh. "I look it because I am. Spent a lot of time walking and riding. Probably should take a shower so I don't smell."

"I should probably take one to wake up," she noted. Even if she was awake enough. Showers were still nice. "Get started on this Sunday."

Sam glanced over at her, clothes in his hand. "You planning on taking one after me or one with me?"

Natalie half smirked at him. Faintly, like she tended to. "Haven't decided yet."

Liar.

"Well, you know where I'll be when you decide," he said, giving her a small smile of his own before he started making his way into the bathroom, clothes in hand. "Hope it doesn't take too long or I might use all the hot water."

With that, he disappeared into the bathroom and started the shower, getting the water nice and warm.

Natalie stayed where she was, idly eating her breakfast. Well, maybe it wasn't her entire breakfast – she'd probably have a bagel later.

But for now, she was listening to the water in the shower.

Sam sighed when the hot water started hitting his muscles. He supported himself with a hand against the shower's wall and closed his eyes. He sighed and just stayed right where he was.

After a moment, Natalie was done with the donut. She licked her fingertips clean, then moved across the room, already pulling her top off.

She slipped quietly into the bathroom, not because she was trying to be sneaky but because that was how she moved, most of the time. She never made a whole lot of noise.

With his eyes closed and the water in his ears, Sam didn't immediately hear her because she was so quiet. He stayed where he was, occasionally rolling his head on his neck and stretching his shoulders but he was pretty still otherwise.

Natalie pushed her shorts down and kicked them off before she got closer. And then when she did, she reached out to put her hands on his shoulders, and rub them a little.

It was one way to say hi.

"Made your decision, hmm?" Sam asked after just enjoying her hands for a few seconds. "Thought you might wait till I got out to take your own shower."

He was glad she didn't.

[whenshewasnice]

"Why would I?" she asked, her hands still gently working against his skin, easing any tension he might have in his muscles. "You already robbed me of any cuddling that could have happened in bed."

[necroslacker]

"Sorry," he murmured, dropping his chin against his chest. "Bad night. I couldn't go back to sleep."

[whenshewasnice]

"I wasn't trying to make you feel bad," Natalie replied lightly. One of her hands trailed up the back of his neck to slide through his wet hair. "You can make up for it now."

"Missed the cuddling that much?" Sam asked, laughing quietly.

[whenshewasnice]

"I'm allowed," she said. Because she was! "I don't have a lot to do on Sundays."

[necroslacker]

"So, if you were super busy, you wouldn't miss cuddling?" Sam asked, sounding amused. "Uh huh."

[whenshewasnice]

"I'd be too busy." Considering the way she tended to lose herself in various activities, that wasn't that much off the mark. "Yeah."
